From the opening night ceremony to USA Night on Houston’s Discovery Green, the 23rd World Petroleum Congress is not to be missed – and the packed social program is just one part of what will be a memorable four days for participants.
PESA is proud to support the Congress as an Industry Partner.
Reflecting the amazing technological developments seen over the years in the industry, the theme of December’s 23rd World Petroleum Congress – ‘Innovative Energy Solutions’ – provides a great platform to discuss the application of new technologies in the industry. It will run through both the Congress program and exhibition.
Through a series of plenaries and roundtables, senior government officials and executives – 50 Ministers and 500 CEOs are expected to attend – from participating companies will share global insights on the energy transition and future of the industry, touching on collaboration, harnessing big data and other industry priorities. PESA Member Companies and oilfield services will be well-represented with Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and CEO, Baker Hughes, and Jeff Miller, Chairman, President and CEO, Halliburton, on board as speakers.
Alongside the high-level program will be a busy technical program, comprising a variety of interactive session formats including forums, roundtables and workshops. Thematic highlights include: the future landscape of E&P technology, data sharing and cybersecurity, innovative E&P technologies, new petroleum resources, the impact of digitalization in the upstream sector and improving industry performance. Following a record response to the call for papers, a total of 700 industry experts from around the world will be speaking at the Congress.
The equipment and services sector looks set to have a significant presence throughout the Congress. There are a number of PESA Members, including Accenture, Baker Hughes, Halliburton, Schlumberger and Weatherford among the sponsor line-up. These companies and others from the sector will also be found on the exhibition floor, along with more than 200 other exhibitors from the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors, making up the largest exhibition in the history of the Congress.
As the host country, the United States is ideally positioned to update on developments in the U.S. industry, and give the U.S. perspective on the state of the broader industry. This will be brought to life through the U.S. Program at the Congress, with topics for discussion including the digital oilfield and U.S. shale revolution.
The development of the Permian Basin is an excellent real-life example of how innovation through all parts of the industry unlocked and de-risked a significant resource play, and it will be a focus area of both the technical and U.S. programs at the Congress as well as the exhibition.
Houston is the ideal host city for the Congress, not only as the energy capital of the world, but also as a city with a dynamic innovation ecosystem, where technologies and best practice have long been cross-applied between the petroleum industry and parallel industrial sectors such as aerospace and medical. This spirit of collaboration will continue through the Congress.
A triennial event that moves around the world, the World Petroleum Congress will move on to Calgary in 2023. The 23rd WPC Organizing Committee looks forward to welcoming participants to Houston this December, for what will be both an informative and transformative conversation.
